Timely Realization about Rejection

What I realize is we can't possibly be accepted all the time and if we did, being accepted would lose its magic and fun.

There is risk in putting your work out there as a writer, or an artist, but the risk is the only way to reap the rewards. I must remember this as I start to submit to journals and contests. The only things holding me back now are my own unfounded reasons for procrastination. I'm gonna bite the bullet.

Finally Back, as a Finalist!

First of all, I'd like to thank you all for sticking around during my school-induced hiatus. I've had limited time to do the things I like to do, but I've been productive doing the things I have to do.

Second of all, I am glad to be back!

Third of all, LET'S CELEBRATE!

In January I announced that I had entered the Chapbook Challenge and was awaiting the results. Although we waited a little longer than it was scheduled, the results were published and I was astonished to see my name on the list:

The 2011 November PAD Chapbook Challenge Finalists (in no particular order):

  • Moments of Silence, by Larry Lawrence
  • Surfacing, by Joseph Harker
  • Chapbook, by Toni Giarnese
  • Gathering of Dogs and Men, by Sara Ramsdell
  • Listless, by Maxie Steer
  • Goose Island Under a Mackerel Sky, by Martha Modena Vertreace-Doody
  • Doll House, by Marissa Coon Rose
  • Transformations, by Taylor Graham
YAY! It was a great moment of validation. I was congratulated and encouraged by my writing group (thanks so much you guys!). Hard work does pay off.

Congratulations are due to all the entrants - because as a first timer, I know it was a difficult process. Sara Ramsdell was named the winner, and a well deserved win. Her poems are poignant and beautiful. To read a few, check out the full results announcement.

What's next? Well, April is in 8 days and another Poem-a-Day challenge begins. I will be posting my daily poetic attempts and I encourage your comments. Also, I will be polishing Listless and *bites nails* looking for publishing opportunities.

Whatever you put your mind to (even when your mind seems to be leaving) you can achieve.
