April PAD 3: Word Search

WORD SEARCH

In our world, if your fingers get too heavy
for the backspace key, your past mistakes
escape the record.

Not so, not here, not today.
I regret saying “I’m sorry”
and throwing around
shallow apologies
because now as my fingers
scamper about searching for meaning
in these letters,
I see that I wasted my words
and like time, they cannot be returned to me.

In our world, if your fingers bear the weight
of correspondence, your past mistakes
can remain current

,

for that, I am really sorry.

Prompt: Write an apologetic/unapologetic poem

I didn't get to post this in the Poetic Asides community for feedback because this one was hard for me to write. I hope you all like it!

  1. I loved the sobering truth in this. Yes, we all need to take a second look before hitting "send".

    Thanks!

  2. Ah yes, the regret after we say something online. Great take on it!
