April PAD 12: Something Blank

Something blank
captures stares:
you’d peer beyond
smooth nothings,
drawing dreams,

penning verses,
carving worlds
from your thoughts.
you rehearse
probable futures

and sometimes
curse the page.

remember, something
blank always stares
back with limitless
possibility and potential.

Prompt: Write a poem entitled "Something ________"

****
I used the prompt literally and wrote about a blank page. Have you thought of a blank page's potential even when it seems to be mocking your writer's block?

****
I was inspired by the #usesofwhitespace conversation on the new Google+ layout. I like that it opens up the page and gives it some breathing room. Blank spaces do not always need to be filled, but it is nice thinking that they can be filled.

  1. I know what you mean...like an empty journal seems to laugh at me sometimes. Then I give it "what for".

  2. Yea! I always feel I need to write more, like the journals are pointing and laughing (nah-nah-na-boo-boo!) in my moments of frustration (writer's block) or guilt (when I don't want to/when I am too busy to write). Changing my attitude about the page calling to me makes a huge difference. Thanks for your comment Caren!
